Description

McGROGAN's 147TH ARMORED REGIMENT PATCH Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: 3 x 3.5 inches in height overall, consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, on a bend Gules fimbriated Argent three alerions of the like, in chief a lion rampant of the last. Attached below the shield a Silver swallow-tailed scroll inscribed "CARGONEEK GUYOXIM" in Black letters. Symbolism: Blue is a color traditionally associated with Infantry, the original allocation of the unit. The bend with the alerions denotes service in Lorraine, and the lion represents service in Belgium during the Ypres-Lys Offensive by that unit. Background: The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 147th Regiment Infantry, Ohio National Guard, on 25 June 1926. It was amended on 19 July 1926, to correct the spelling of the motto. The insignia was redesignated effective 1 September 1994, for the 147th Armor, Ohio Army National Guard, with the description and symbolism revised.
